چکیده
A 20-year old Malay female presented with swelling at the angle of the mandible on the left side of 7 months duration. It was associated with neck discomfort, dysphagia and few episodes of aspiration. Examination showed a diffuse fixed swelling at the angle of mandible on the left side. It was non-tender and lymph node was not palpable. Multiple left cranial nerve palsies were elicited involving glossopharyngeal, vagus, accessory and hypoglossal nerves. Intraorally the left tonsil was medialized. A CT scan showed a left parapharyngeal tumour encasing the left carotid artery and left internal jugular vein (Figure 1). It measured 2.6 cm × 4.6 cm × 4.5 cm. The cerebral angiogram showed tumour blush which was not suggestive of a glomus tumour. The feeding vessel was from ascending pharyngeal branch of the external carotid artery. A CT guided trucut biopsy revealed a meningothelial meningioma. She underwent subtotal tumour resection (Figure 2). A parapharyngeal meningioma presenting as a neck mass and multiple cranial nerve palsies

Imaging Features of Extra Cranial Parapharyngeal Space Meningioma: Case Report
Parapharyngeal tumors are less common in clinical practice and are often difficult to diagnose upon clinical examination due to the anatomic complexity of the region. We report a rare case of extracranial parapharyngeal space meningioma presenting as a cervical mass with encasement of cranial nerves giving tram track appearance and features on various imaging modalities [Radiographs, Ultrasound...
متن کاملTumors Presenting as Multiple Cranial Nerve Palsies
Cranial nerve palsy could be one of the presenting features of underlying benign or malignant tumors of the head and neck. The tumor can involve the cranial nerves by local compression, direct infiltration or by paraneoplastic process. Cranial nerve involvement depends on the anatomical course of the cranial nerve and the site of the tumor. Patients may present with single or multiple cranial n...
متن کاملCerebrospinal fluid dissemination of anaplastic intraventricular meningioma: report of a case presenting with progressive brainstem dysfunction and multiple cranial nerve palsies.
BACKGROUND It is extremely rare to see cerebrospinal fluid dissemination of intraventricular meningioma, particularly with the development of acute, progressive brainstem/cerebellar dysfunction with an absence of mass formation in the corresponding anatomical sites. CASE PRESENTATION An 81-year-old man was admitted because of double vision, right facial nerve palsy and truncal ataxia. Brain m...
متن کاملParapharyngeal second branchial cyst manifesting as cranial nerve palsies: MR findings.
SUMMARY We report the MR findings of parapharyngeal branchial cleft cyst manifesting as multiple, lower cranial nerve palsies in a 35-year-old woman. On MR images, a well-marginated cystic mass was detected in the right parapharyngeal space, with displacement of both the right internal carotid artery and the right internal jugular vein on the posterolateral side. The cyst contained a whitish fl...
متن کاملMetastatic Adenocarcinoma of Temporal Bone with Collet-Sicard Syndrome
Introduction: Metastatic tumors of the temporal bone are extremely rare. Collet-Sicard syndrome is an uncommon condition characterized by unilateral palsy of the lower four cranial nerves. The clinical features of temporal bone metastasis are nonspecific and mimic infections such as chronic otitis media and mastoiditis. Case Report: This report describes a rare case of metastatic adenocarcino...
